History

Encinillas Wines are produced on the original grounds of Hacienda Encinillas, adjacent to the old Camino Real ( recently declared a World Heritage Site ), a trail that connected Mexico City and Santa Fe as far back three centuries ago. The vestiges of men and carriage tracks, that can still be seen today, continue to remind us of the rich history of the hacienda.

For over two centuries the valleys sorrounding Encinillas witnessed assaults and looting of bellicose Native american tribes. In the late 1800´s the raids were often lead by either Geronimo or Victorio, two of the most notorious Apache chiefs. In fact, legend has it that Victorio was abducted from Encinillas when he was six years old by the apaches, with whom he learned their language and to master horse riding. A few years later the Hacienda was also the site of many aggressions by the revolutionary cavalry.

The wines of Encinillas are the result of the pioneering vision, the talent and tenacity of the Hacienda´s owner, a member of a Spanish family that greatly contributed to the forging of twentieth century Mexico. In Making his dream a reality he is aided by winemaker of French descendent who loves artisanal winemaking and also by the assistance of a world-class oenologyst.

As a final touch, an to assure an ideal match between the vines and the unique terroir of Encinillas, the vineyard was planted only after a fastidious and meticulous selection of the best available clones and cultivars of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Shiraz.

The wines of Encinillas are here to surprise experts and wine enthusiast alike, to delight with their unique character and nuances, to tell the history of a legendary Hacienda and to create history once again.
